Empowering Every African Farmer to Farm Profitably & Sustainably
We believe that the knowledge gap — not the land gap — is what keeps most African farmers from prosperity. The best farming techniques exist. The problem is access.
River Root bridges that gap through affordable digital resources, expert consultations, and a growing community of farmers who share what actually works on the ground.

What We Stand For
Practical Knowledge
Everything we teach comes from real farms and real failures — not textbooks. Our advice is built on ground truth.
Farmer-First
Every product, guide, and consultation is designed around what farmers actually need — not what sounds impressive in a brochure.
Sustainable Impact
We believe profitable farming and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. We actively promote responsible aquaculture practices.
Accessible Excellence
World-class farming knowledge shouldn't cost a fortune. Our products and subscriptions are priced for the African market.
From One Pond to Thousands of Farmers
The Beginning
Dr. Adebayo Okafor starts a 6-pond catfish operation in Ogun State with ₦800,000 seed capital and a notebook full of failed experiments.
First Harvest Win
After 3 years of trial and error, River Root produces its first commercially profitable harvest — 4.2 tonnes of catfish sold to Lagos wholesale markets.
Knowledge Becomes a Product
Frustrated farmers kept calling Dr. Okafor for advice. He formally launched River Root Fisheries as a knowledge and consulting brand, not just a farm.
The Expert Team Forms
Ngozi, Emmanuel, and Dr. Fatima join forces. The combined team now covers fish farming, poultry, disease management, and agribusiness across West Africa.
Digital Resources Launch
Responding to pandemic-era demand for remote learning, River Root launches its first digital product line — eBooks, templates, and video courses.
1,000 Clients Milestone
River Root crosses 1,000 active clients across 12 African countries. The Learning Hub and full Shop are launched for self-paced farmer education.
Today
3,400+ farmers trained. 38+ premium digital products. Expert consultations available globally. And still growing — one pond at a time.

Six Ponds, One Dream, and a Lot of Dead Fish
In 2009, Dr. Adebayo Okafor dug six earthen ponds on inherited farmland in Ogun State. Armed with a library book and advice from a distant cousin, he stocked catfish fingerlings and waited.
By month four, nearly 60% of the fish were dead. Feed overdose, poor water quality, and zero disease monitoring had done their damage. He lost ₦430,000. He nearly quit.
Instead, he enrolled in a NIFFR workshop, rebuilt his operation methodically, and achieved his first profitable harvest in 2012. Neighbours started asking questions. Then strangers started calling.
“I realised the biggest problem wasn't the ponds or the fish. It was the knowledge gap. So I decided that's what I'd solve.” — Dr. Adebayo Okafor, Founder
